Jos Bascourt drew his very first Art Nouveau creation here in 1898, which already bears witness to his creativity and audacity. A beautiful facade in geometric style, which foreshadows the Four Seasons, which he will build a year later, Generaal van Meerlenstraat.
Beautiful facade in coated bricks, very sober, two bays pierced with large narrow windows.
A spectacular oriel in five sections, placed on a carved stone console, makes all the difference.
Four elaborate columns run the length of the loggia and support a five-sided roof. Ironwork connects the columns to the oriel window.
Small floral stained glass decorates the center of the cantilevered windows, while small ceramic panels depicting fire are placed below the windows.
All windows have metal lintels, characteristic of the introduction of visible metal structures in Art Nouveau.
Another ceramic panel announces the name of the house “Boreas”, from the name of a north wind in ancient Greek.
The house is in an excellent state of maintenance and conservation.
It has been listed since 1984.
