Vast classical style house (1855) redecorated with Art Nouveau elements.
In Spa, several houses dating from the 19th century were re-dressed at the turn of the century, the spa towns competed with each other in every way and had to give off a “modern” image.
This gives surprising combinations, like this villa where the dominant element of the facade, namely the loggia, has been redecorated with metal columns, covered with polychrome ivy, ceramic flowers and flowered ironwork in console and attachments of the cornice.
Ceramic friezes run along the facade on both sides visible from the street.
An Art Nouveau style veranda was also added.
The front door was redesigned and ironwork added.
It is not certain that the current dominant green color corresponds to the original one.
Art Nouveau was rather sober in its color palette.
