Undoubtedly the most extravagant Art Nouveau house in the neighborhood!
Built in 1905 by architect Frans Smet-Verhas, who mixes all styles, from classic and Art Nouveau, to Italian or Moorish.
And above all, for its large mosaic that surrounds the two rounded windows on the top floor, it is inspired by the facade of Paul Hankar for the Ciamberlani hotel in Brussels (see here).
The house located in the Waterloostraat tells the story of the Battle of Waterloo, a theme that has nothing to do with Art Nouveau. We see Napoleon, Wellington, and battle scenes. What a curious mix.
An Italian or Moorish style turret crowns the facade, which had been demolished because it threatened to fall in 2014.
The owners have faithfully rebuilt the top of the facade and the turret, and also masterfully restored this unique facade.
House listed in 1984.
