We can speak here of a true masterpiece, a complete creation that dresses the four corners of the intersection of Waterloostraat and Generaal Van Meerlenstraat.
Architect Jos Bascourt, a prolific designer, has built no less than 15 houses in the neighborhood.
The four corner houses built at the same time in 1899 are similar in plan and in the development of the facades. They are distinguished by the color of the woodwork, the design of the cornices and the magnificent mosaics that adorn the broken angles, representing the four seasons.
A large mosaic features each season, while a smaller mosaic spells out the name of the house. Pretty stained glass also adorns the windows with seasonal flowers, lilies, irises, roses, etc.
The glazed bricks have allowed these houses to stand the test of time.
A spectacular neo-Gothic oriel adorns each facade, its base is triangular, it is placed on a freestone console, and decorated with a medieval "halberd".
The cornices are also spectacular, featuring painted friezes of seasonal flowers. Identical ironwork for the four houses adorn the windows on the ground floor.
All of the houses have been maintained, restored with care and know-how.
They have been listed since July 1975.
