This is one of the rare funerary monuments created by Victor Horta.
This one is in fact an identical replica of the one created in 1893-95 for the Huybrechts-Coppejans family in Ghent (see here).
In 1920, their son-in-law, Valère Carpentier, called on Horta to recreate this Art Nouveau monument, even though this style had been abandoned since the 14/18 war.
Surprisingly, Horta designed this one in accordance with the wishes of his client.
Whiplash lines, stylized irises, sculpted in hard stone.
The Carpentier Huybrechts couple had already entrusted Horta with the construction of a villa in Renaix in 1903.
