One of the rare funerary monuments created by Victor Horta, was commissioned by Antoon Huybrechts on the death of his wife Virginie Coppejans in 1893.

This monument will also be reproduced identically at the request of their son-in-law Victor Carpentier for his wife in Ronse in 1920.

This couple, the Carpentier-Huybrechts, also had a vast villa built in Ronse in 1903 by Victor Horta.

The shape of the stele is domed and curved, and ends in a four-sided dome resting on a “belt” which surrounds the stele.

The stele and the tomb are in sculpted hard stone, all in curved lines and whiplashes dear to Horta.

The front features the family names, and a design of intertwined flowers.

The side faces feature a cross starting from very stylized irises.

Rays of sunlight form the background.
