Paul Cauchie

Architect, painter and decorator born in Ath on July 7, 1875 and died in Etterbeek (Brussels) on December 1, 1952.

Married to Lina Voet, painter.

Paul Cauchie will be above all the most prolific and brilliant sgraffito painter of the Art Nouveau period. His work as an architect was limited to the construction of three villas and three studio houses, including his own in collaboration with the architect Edouard Frankinet. But he will work with the biggest names in Art Nouveau architecture to decorate facades and interior walls with his magnificent sgraffitoes, many of which have fortunately been preserved and restored.

His house, rue des Francs in Etterbeek, is the perfect illustration of his immense talent.
