Paul Hamesse

Born in Ixelles in April 1877 and died in Saint Gilles in February 1956.

Of modest origins, son of Adolphe Hamesse, painter and photographer, Paul grew up in an artistic environment surrounded by two brothers and a sister.

He studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels between 1894 and 1899.

He was a trainee and collaborator of Paul Hankar with whom he was introduced to geometric Art Nouveau, a simplification of the first floral wave.

His first real achievement (1898) was the house and workshop of artist Arthur Rogiers, rue Charles Quint.

He will mainly design single-family homes, but also storefronts.
